Reading all posts here , i'm wondering - why do You not investigate into problems, related to AT89S52 . Just now is time to find "leakage" places into Your design. Switching to any other micro can "mask"problems, but also can "kill" Your opinion about new micro (due unresolved problem in design). I have process controller into moulding machine , builded with 89S52 (acting as input/output controller for buttons and triacs). There was no problems with S52 for whole lifetime - last 3 years.
So i advise - invest Your time into "bad" 89S52, rather into new board.
