Freescale was spun out of Motorola, so their product portfolio is pretty mature. When the fine points of processor architecture were fiercely debated I was always a big fan of the Motorola processors. These days processor decisions are based much more on mundane issues such as price, current consumption, package options etc. As such the Freescale parts hold their own, and I would not hesitate to use them.
