Do you (bi-/multilingual friends) think/speak to yourself in multiple languages? I speak English and Spanish and, yes, I do think in both. When speaking I'm simply thinking in the language I'm speaking. But if I'm just thinking to myself, sometimes I find myself thinking in English and sometimes in Spanish. I haven't noted any consistency as to when I think in one or the other except that I always think in English when it comes to technical/computer issues. I also agree with what you said elsewhere: You can definitely dream in languages other than your native language. I recall dreams in both English and Spanish. If I dream I'm with my wife's family in Mexico I definitely am not speaking to them in English! Heck, if I dream I'm with my wife we're not speaking English either (she does speak English, but we always speak Spanish when we're together). Regards, Craig Steiner |
