That is an excellent chip for audio lines. I have used it often for analog projects.
Not so sure about using it for digital signals. It only has a 15v/us speed and no functions to help recover the data.

What speed are you trying to run this link at? I would think something like a sn75176a would be a better match.

Other than that, there are several 'modem' chips with built-in line equalizers.
