Huh??? I was showing off? It seemed like the right word at the right time.

In others, the fancy word is the only one that works ("anthropomorphic metaphor").


Now that sounds like a case of showing off--I don't even know what it means! :)

So a question: In an international forum like this, is it better for everyone to simply write as they normally do, on the assumption that those less skilled in English will be challenged to learn and improve?


Yes. As someone that became fluent in a second language (Spanish), I can assure you that if everyone had dumbed down their speech/written word so I was never challenged, I would not now be fluent in Spanish.
