Everything you say is true, but...

As for me, if 90% of the population decides to make like lemmings, I'll sit here and watch the parade. Unless you're trying to make money by selling products to lemmings in which case you will tend to have to go with the flow. All I know is that a few years ago I felt exactly like you. The principle of the matter of using Linux instead of Windows was reason enough to use Linux. But I was constantly battling with Linux, trying to make it work, and it never really worked with my laptop. When I bought a new laptop my intent was to format it and install Linux. But when I turned it on with Windows pre-installed and everything just worked, it was just too enjoyable. I was able to worry about the things I really needed to do rather than find work-arounds to make certain things work on my laptop, etc. So after 2-3 years with Linux, I stuck with Windows. I'm not against Linux and I would like to abandon Windows on principle. But I've concluded that there is no personal benefit to me in doing so before Linux is ready. And, no, 2-3 years of working with Linux has taught me that Linux isn't ready yet. It continues to make progress but it isn't there yet. It's great for a server and I wouldn't use any other OS for a server. But it's not ready for my deskptop. Regards, Craig Steiner |
