Hi Jan:

I am newbie compared to all the engineers on this site.
When I purchased my 89c2051 sbc I wanted a unit that would work all time. So I looked around found this in nuts and volts magazine in 1996 http://www.allen-systems.com/mb51.htm. It cost at that time sbc assembled $50 now its $69.
It used an DS1833 5v econo reset. Looked like transistor 3 pin device. I would never build my own programmer to use as first project. I would build my own after I had the first to calabrate the second one. My quess is Allen Systems company was smart as it was new company and did not want have problems with their units so they added the 5v econo reset.
I called owner of the company John Allen ask why he had DS1833 part as I notice it kind of expensive and my text books only showed a 10uf cap. and 8.2K resistor. John said I ship all over the world and need to know my units all ways start up. You see Ralph I don't like unhappy customers. At that time 89c2051 were still for most designers.
Jan what do you think of the DS1833 part, ever use it?
I also notice on 80c31 part that ap notes leave off the 8.2k and use only 10uf cap will this even work most of the time?
If it does will it work on 89c2051 part?
I made a serial exeriser for my job with simple program that repeats the same over and over to test serial on pc's. Any way since I use batteries do I need some type of low battery alert on my test unit? I never thought about it till read your post on rc reset.

Best reguards,

Ralph Sack
