When it EDIF standard was developed, it ruled out the use of printable characters such as #, *, !, -, and /, leaving us with alpha-numerics only. For this reason, many of us old-timers use a prefix-n (lower case) to indicate active-low singals.

Surely there's a reason to use one or the other, but EDIF doesn't like 'em.
