#120708 - Dedication
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Perhaps it's their dedication to the core processes of learning.
This is an important ingredient to do anything and without it nobody can move ahead

in life.
Students need to be sufficiently disciplined that they are present at each class

period and fully prepared.

Instructors need to be prepared as well, particularly in having previously asigned

and turned-in homework examined and graded promptly.

Students must be absolutely quiet and attentive, without cellphones, video games, or

iPods in use during class.

Instructors must be absolutely isistent that students remain awake and are

permanently expelled from their class for creating a disturbance, including a tardy

entry into class. They must also put heavy emphasis on student preparation, not

because it helps learning, though it does, but because the single most important

thing learned in college is to be present and to do the work promptly.

Now the point is why would students cause disturbance in the class. Many would say they are irresponsible and do not care. But i have personal experience when good professors lecture students are quiet and attentive and everybody attended lectures and did
there work. But other teachers who blurted away from textbooks students get irritated and restless.Sometimes the teachers laziness also rubs on students and they behave in the same way.How can you insist students to be awake. If you give boring lectures you will get sleeping students.

Out of a class of 60 only a small percentage will be dedicated students who would want to learn in depth the subject.Remainig only work for there grades. But a good professor can bring in change of attitude and outlook even in this students.

Regards
Gopal
