I agree that it is a bit much for simple PAL/GAL designs.The move away is prolly prompted by the complexity of the language,its strong typing and its complex syntax.However designers who are using C-a-like type designs to produce behavioural language systems are coming up against the fact that behavioral compilers are very new ones which work well are an order of magnitude more complex than simple register transfer or dataflow type compilers which most people use.
