Instead of Using MTK to interface to the DS'4x0, Try HyperTerminal. This is for diagnostic purposes. The PC will assert DTR such that you will be in "Bootloader" mode.

Just start up HyperTerminal (or ProComm, or Term, or ...) and press Enter.

Do you get the Boot Loader Msg?
