I use 11.0592MHz all time with the DS'4x0 with no problem.

From your post i assume that you have never been able to program the DS and that this problem is not intermittent.

The Dallas '125 "switch" configuration does work and i've used it for many years without problem. So my guess is there is a signal integrity issue that is at the heart of this problem. Perhaps as simple as grounding between the PC and the DS.

Are there any other symptoms, i.e. do you get a prompt character but not the remaining text string from the boot loader?
