I've found the following item in the bugtracker:

The second part of the bug is exactly what you complain about; it was fixed in #5694 (17/Feb/2010).

However, the original post says "in 5616 it worked". Also, around January 2010 (#5616 is 5/Jan/2010) one of the project maintainers reworked significantly the assembler/linker combo as per input/output files handling, and this sounds exactly like consequence of that rework (I complained about related problem which exhibited itself only on Win9x I run at home).

[EDIT]I've just installed v2.9.0, and a similar example as yours DID produce the OMF file.
Don't you have some other version of SDCC installed and lurking around?
Would you mind sharing your sources?
