Not really true.

And for simplicity - just fill the FIFO of a UART and keep it running.
Or switch to FW for higher bandwidth.

The trick is to figure out the best way to take advantage of the existing tools, instead of blaiming them for not being identital to the tools you had access to 20 years ago.
