The MCU is interesting for this sort of thing if and only if it can do the WHOLE job without external hardware. why? Even the smallest of FPGA's can handily do all of what an MCU can do in the context of concatenating the data paths counting pixel clocks, and generating output pulses. The display-dedicated MCU has nothing to bring to the table. Another MCU is driving the data. The programmable logic can manage the timing. the screen itself is quite expensive, so what if the MCU cost $5 If you're building the interface, and someone else buys it, then the $5 may make a difference, namely, whether they buy it or not. saving on the oregano ($0.10) when you have $20 worth of steak makes no sense.
what would you rather have a monitor that cost $100 and works or one that cost $50 and don't? It matters not at all if I don't provide the monitor. Erik |
