But I've heard that there are strange procedures needed to read out the 450's FLASH in parallel programmer (just from curiosity, if you have one, how long does it take for you? - mine is almost infinity on our Elnec LabProg48, several minutes, compared to other 64kB '51s, taking tens of seconds...)

Isn't that all a consequence of Dallas having little/no experience with FLASH before? Dothey have FLASH process of their own, or are their FLASH parts manufactured elsewhere?
