if you decide to leave the '51 (which you, as seen above (SIlabs, Philips, Dallas, Atmel etc) do not need to do) have a look at the Philips XA. It really drives the performance of a "16 bit '51 chip" to a higher level which the 251 can not really do because Intel insisted on object compatibility. The XA has "source compatibility" and is a much better design.
