As mentioned, problem exists with both drivers. If I use hyper-terminal to connect, USB converter still hangs. After then, if I disconnect it and try to connect back, hyperterminal freezes for 10 seconds and comes back saying 'Telephony device is in use by some other application..". It is impossible to connect to the converter through hyper terminal after the chip hangs. Take out the USB connector, put it back and it works normally since the chip got reset.
