An SCR is what I'm used to seeing in such an application. Some of them have a very sensitive gate, fire quite quickly and use just the a resistor in place of the zener, i.e. no amp/comparator, or whatever.
Now, I have seen 'em with the zener above a resistor, such that when the voltage goes up, the voltage at the junction between the zener and the resistor also goes up, thereby firing the SCR. RE |
