Because you mentioned an array, they should have used switches, as this sounds more like an address than a simple jump. A soldier jump should be limited in the amount that is on a board. A 2D grid of these little buggers is going overboard, and is plain cheap and poor quality. Still yet, there is a better way than using switches if the power is low enough. Quite frankly, jumpers should be avoided if they can be avoided as they involve unnecessary risk and cost, as Erik mentioned a trivial way for eliminating the need for a jumper and improving quality.
