What unintended consequences do you see with reducing the amount of electricity, gasoline, plastic bags, ... used? The biggest problem is that most people prefer the solutions that doesn't affect themselves. My life doesn't get worse if I use reusable bags. My life doesn't get worse if I walk. Why live in a world where a large part of the electricity comes from coal? The only big environmental policy I dislike a lot is that Swedish companies have to reduce their own pollution, and are not allowed to use the same amount of money to instead reduce the pollution somewhere else? It's simililar with pollution as with progress with a software program. The last 10% takes 90% of the resources. I think it would be best to do world-wide optimization instead of - by law - forcing local optimizations. |
