I am of the firm belief that you already see multi-microcontrolling and you will see more advanced multi-micrconctrolling. Particularly with the advancements of FPGAs, just plop in multi CPUs into one core. In fact, most of the modern chips are developed on an FPGA based platform and then placed into a commercial die. No doubt, that many of the extra additional functions are there because of multi-core processing power. So far, I've used up to 6 CPUs just in my data aqc systems to make a hard problem simpler.
