I have no problem with putting in a GB of SDRAM. It's just one DIMM.

The underlying question is whether the Windows OS can sustain a high enough transfer rate over time to allow me to collect 500 MB of data, which takes less than 10 minutes' time, and transfer it to the PC within an hour. In a similar but smaller operation using the FTDI '245UM fifo interface and drivers, I've seen tasks that should take 10 seconds take several minutes. My trepidation stems from extrapolation on that observation.

If one could do this with DOS, I'd be much happier, since I can control exactly what it does.

If forced to do that, I could break the data up into multiple files and save them on local CF storage and subsequently transfer those files to the PC, but the whole process would still have to be complete within an hour.
