I still disagree. The 8051 could be used to develop a "computer" on the order of most personal computers of the 1980's (Apple II's, Atari's, Commodores, the original IBMs). The only major difference between those and what we have today is speed and capacity, not really anything conceptual. I'd say an 8051 computer could do just about anything a PC can do... albeit much slower (as such the 8051 computer couldn't do those PC tasks where speed is a major consideration).

Given that the original poster mentioned wanting to make an LCD-based computer, I don't exactly think he's planning on running Windows or Word on this thing. A command-line driven computer with a 40x2 LCD and a Secure Digital storage device that can load and unload programs (like DOS) is definitely within the capabilities of an 8051-based system.
