However... Forcing developers to use substandard HW has only so much utility

we may differ on what is 'substandard' :)

anyhow, the issue is not what developers work on, but their idiotic attitude that everyone else will have the same as they work on at whatever cost. How do you think a person in a third world country that can not afford to upgrade his PC every month feels when the next 'advanced' version brings his productivity close to zero?
