#133133 - "buy a faster PC"
Responding to: ???'s previous message
You probably have a ~1Ghz PC actually faster on your desk to do development with, a few hundred mb of RAM actually 1G, half of which is used by Windows, and a single slow disk actually a fast one. When you type "make", your build is done before you can reach for your coffee cup, and that's just how you like it.
YES, and hallelujah BTW where did you get the idea that my PC might have "a few hundered millibytes"

At work, my smaller systems have 2 - 4 3Ghz CPU's and 4Gb of memory, and a 12 drive array. The larger ones.... 8 core 32-hyperthread CPU's, 32+ Gb of memory with packetized 288-bit wide crossbar interconnects, and a 4Tb FC/AL smart RAID array with multiple controllers, each of which is more powerful than your desktop.

The issue here is, as I have seen so often before; the developer has (for productivity reasons) a behemot of a computer and then releases what run "satisfactory" on his behemot on the unsuspecting users.

In the <500MHz days I had an exchange with Olli Kinnunen, president of Nohau, re the Nohau software. After some cajoling he replaced the devlopers PC with a 75 - or was it 100 MHz unit and the developer had to make do. The next release was much faster.

The extremely offensive reply I have got from some 'developers' is "buy a faster PC".
