does anyone here consider applications written in Java to be desirable?

Oh yes, those that want "elegant code" whether the user likes the result or not.

Do you not remember that on our old 10MHz PCs things ran faster than they do today on out multiGigaHertz PCs. That was because the machine was slow enough to make a throughput consideration mandatory for the software design. It should be like that today, but, unfortunately, is not.

Now you suggest one more software method to slow things further down - you must be kidding.

Ok, they can switch to Java when Intel comes out with the 10THz Pentium.
