#122390 - Research respected by whom? Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Never, never, believe the word of a salesman. Certainly the American medical system is far from perfect, but LEF clearly has an agenda, and they want your money.
"LEF clearly has an agenda", of course, they do, so, they quote research that they find 'interesting', does that invalidate the research when LEF did not generate it? Of course it doesn't invalidate it, that's not what I said. Advertisers/salesmen/marketing/etc are professional liars, of necessity. Have you ever heard a salesman say "Our product is ok, but competitor XYZ makes the same stuff better than we do, and at half the cost!" The research they quote may or may not be valid, but don't take LEF's word for it. Even if the research is valid, LEF will only quote that which supports its agenda, never any possibly equally valid research that goes against their agenda. This goes for any other entity trying to sell you something. Never take their word for anything without independent verification. Caveat emptor. That's why whenever anyone, salespeople, politicians, whatever, quote statistics, my response is "Show me the raw data." I will not accept their results unless I can run the numbers myself. Most "research" quoted by marketing is bogus, bought and paid for by the marketer (Microsoft is a good example). And good research is sometimes suppressed if it goes against government policy. Not long ago a graduate student's forestry research was suppressed and government funds dried up because his results, although validated by experts in the field, would have cost the logging industry big bucks, and therefore cut into the government's tax income. |
