And finally, it is true that a surgeon will never say, "OOPS!" Instead, they say, "There!"
http://www.lef.org/magazine/...ath_01.htm Erik Never, never, believe the word of a salesman. Certainly the American medical system is far from perfect, but LEF clearly has an agenda, and they want your money. Having said that, the American public is way overmedicated, but it's not the fault (or not so much) of the medical system. People are overmedicated because they demand drugs from their doctors and the doctors won't refuse unless they see clear harm in prescribing what the patient asks for. Refusal could mean loss of a client. Americans demand drugs because, like the good little consumer sheep that they are, they believe the lies they hear in commercials put forth by drug companies. We need to put an end to direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs. Drug companies that engage in DTC advertising are nothing more than drug pushers, morally no different from the clown pushing heroin on the street corner. A good place to start would be http://www.stopdrugads.org. You could also write your congress-critter, but given the current administration, it's unlikely to do much good. The drug companies spend way more on lobbying than you can counter with a mere letter. And finally, stop believing what you hear in drug commercials. Like all sales pitches, they're a pack of lies. The drug companies don't give a damn about your health or well-being, they care about your money, and only about your money. |
