I have a couple of these at home, one of which I am struggling to get going on a PC that runs NetBSD (Unix). The driver documentatiion lists several error messages one of which is:
'could not load 8051 microcode An error occured while attempting to upload the microcode to the onboard 8051 microcontroller'

This driver supports wireless network cards based on the very popular Ralink RT2500, RT2501 and RT2600 chipsets. They are used in many manufacturers wireless network cards so this must account for many millions of 8051s - according to their own web site, Ralink expected to sell 14 million chips sets in 2005.
