What did the optimiser make of that?
I use the NASA approach "we fly what we test" so, since I do a lot of testing using an ICE, I do not optimize (except by writing the occasional piece of assembly)

PS "testing using an ICE" is, of course, not the final test, but testing of what happens when illegal things occur. It is fairly easy to insert certain illegalities with an ICE, quite difficult to do it by other means.
