#111262 - What's that? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I've apparently missed something along the way. What's an I2S DAC?
The obvious reason ARM may be dumping things is because they feel their ARM CPU's are better than others, e.g. c16x and 805x, and are already available for <$7US with SDRAM, FLASH, ETHERNET MAC, SDLC, UART, and PARALLEL I/O at 50 MHz. That part with the six ethernet channels, with 5 integrated PHY's on a switch cost only $18, and it was an ARM9 with all those features (no HDLC) at 166 MHz. You connect the memory directly to the CPU, connect the ethernet directly to the CPU, and connect the serial I/O to whatever level-shifters you like. Al you have to do is program the thing, since the hardware is trivial. Samsung makes lots of ARM's. Cirrus Logic makes at least one, and there are lots of others. IF they're really as cheap and as good as everyone thinks (I like 8-bitters, myself) they should take over the market. Why, then, shouldn't ARM take over the tools market as well? At least the ARM is adequate for an RTOS. RE |
