#109742 - Are you sure?

ARM Dumps Keil Compiler
1) there is no Keil ARM compiler, only a slightly modified GCC

Are you sure?

As I understood it, Keil supported a GCC compiler, and also had their own ARM Compiler - called "CARM" (like "C51", "C166", etc).

It's the CARM that's been dumped

2) Keil does not actually "dump" the ARM ompiler, they come out with a "new and flashy model".

I don't think it's just a "new and flashy model"; I think it's a different compiler - and Keil's original CARM has been sidelined as a "Legacy" tool.

See: http://www.keil.com/arm/

  • Choose the RealView Compilation Tools if your goal is to use the industry-standard development tools from ARM.
  • Choose the Keil CARM C Compiler if your goal is maintain projects created with the legacy Keil compilation tools.
  • Choose the FREE GNU Compiler if your goal is to reduce development tools cost.
  • (my emphasis)

    Wasn't "Realview" ARM's own toolset?

See also: http://www.keil.com/demo/limits.asp where CARM, GNU, and Realview are all mentioned distinctly.

They're not just saying "this is the next version of CARM" - they're saying "CARM is obsolete - the new product is Realview"
