Thanks for your reply! The ports being on or '1' at startup is not a problem since the load is only LEDs. I've always used transistors for switching and decided that it's time to learn how to use FETs. Hence my understanding of how they worked was the first thing I doubted. It seems like the problem may be ESD after all, since both the soldering stations I used no longer has the earth connected to the tip. The one station has a broken earth wire between the station and the handpiece and the other has earth missing between the mains plug and the station. Will fix it and try again! :-) Henk |
