As written in your posting it all sounds like everything should have worked OK.
This FET is supposed to take 500mA according to the data sheet so it should be fairly rugged. So one has to ask .... 1) Are you using proper ESD precautions in handling the FETs? One small discharge can totally destroy the parts. 2) Are you 100% sure that you had the circuit wired up as described? 3) The information that you rebuilt the circuit with 89C2051 gives me the impression you may be using one of those white plastic prototype plug boards for your circuit. If so then be aware that these things are notoriously unreliable at having intermittent connections and allowing components and wires to short together. This could be death to the FET just by moving the proto board. Michael Karas |
