#178531 - Why relays?

Sorry about the mess up.
What i am doing is trying to make a bigger dot matrix printer with a pin matrix of 8*32 and 12*36.
That is why I require to control 256 or 432 pins. I am already on my way to design a GUI which will take any design as input and convert it into hex values.

What, exactly, do you mean by "design"? Is it a graphic image segment or is it something else?

These values will be stored in the data memory of the controller or on an external memory. What i want to do is to actuate all these pins in under 450ms according to the data. That means I will be using a relay.

Why does it require a relay?

So for that i want an analog voltage with discrete values which will turn the relay ON and OFF according to the data.

Why does this require analog values?

This should be done in before the paper is scrolled vertically i.e. under 450ms.
It it sufficient or do you need any more specific details.

I've looked at the innards of many dot-matrix printers and have never seen any that use relays to drive the printhead(s).

I'm curious why you'd want to use a relay. Please explain that and the other items I've mentioned.
