I bought one Vellerman digital portable scope. It has menues and is quite useful for working floating from ground (switching power supplies, etc). It costed less than E300, I think.

But I think that young people tend to embrace things that give inmediate responses. Reasons could be the multimedia culture, and a different aspect of this issue is (in my country at least) the low rate of book reading in youngers. They prefer TV, computers, things of fast responses (like a digital DVM ;-).
