That sounds like a very simple requirement for which a sub-$100 basic modem should be fine.


That looks like a very powerful embedded computer with all bells & whistles, and GSM/GPRS built-in - and, of course, a price tag to match.


You need to clarify what you actually want here:

is it just a basic modem, just to send a simple SMS alert message, under control of an external micro?

or do you need a powerful unit that can also do autonomous control?

does it need to be a cased, off-the-shelf "modem", or a bare "module" to integrate onto your own board?

or what?
