I have done several modem apps, so this is NOT about 'modem' BUT about 'cellular' in the USA to send an alert text message in case of malfunction Erik Malund said:
1) Do you get the modem from a cellular provider or e.g. digikey?. Market is almost flooded with GSM/CDMA modules etc. You only need to but a SIM from the cellular operator. http://www.gsm-modem.de/gsm-module-modem.html Erik Malund said:
2) If from the cellular provider, how do you get hold of a person that know what you are talking about?. Buy it right from a manufacturer who sells online, not even from mediating people like Arrow etc . My experience is European Companies tech support does understand what you talk about and are very cooperative . http://www.cermetek.com/ (US company), Provides very good Tech support . They have a Modem for as low as $350 . http://www.cermetek.com/News/12-16-2008.cfm Erik Malund said:
3) Any rstrictions for use (FCC etc?). When you make a product of your own , you need to get it certified as a whole for what ever compliance you seek for FCC /CE etc. As Andy pointed out , the Modules are already FCC certified but FCC rules requires (OEMS) to provide appropriate labels outside their box for what Transmitter they use. 4) This is a professional app, so "juryrig a cellphone" is NOT of interest. Thanx,Erik But that Kludge is already known to be used by Hobbyists :). Regards/ Ap |
