I have done several modem apps, so this is NOT about 'modem' BUT about 'cellular' in the USA to send an alert text message in case of malfunction But you're in the US, and all the responses so far are from those who aren't Erik Malund said:
1) Do you get the modem from a cellular provider or e.g. digikey?. Unlike most carriers in other countries, US provider's want you to get devices from them. They give them away for next to nothing in order to lock you into a multi-year contract. Most of them offer PCMCIA modems under this policy. Don't know if that would meet your needs or not. They generally come with an app for sending text messages. You can also (usually) download an SDK from the card's manufacturer to control the card yourself. I've used Sierra Wireless cards on ATT's network, though it looks like they've made the SDKs harder to get to. They also offer embedded modules. Erik Malund said:
2) If from the cellular provider, how do you get hold of a person that know what you are talking about?. Never had to - the SDK worked fine. Erik Malund said:
3) Any rstrictions for use (FCC etc?). Not with the PCMCIA cards. |
