#186810 - Strong headlight Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The main advantage with a strong headlight isn't that you can blind a driver.
But that when you dim the headlight, you trig the automatic reflex of the car driver to also dim his/her headlight. A huge percentage of car drivers don't realize that they are blinding bikers. We have much weaker light so with a car nearby everything outside that car light is pitch black. And with the car light aimed at the cyclist, all that is seen are two local suns. It doesn't matter how much the bike headlight lights up pot holes. Or what night vision the cyclist has. All that matters is that the high beam of a car is strong enough that a cyclist basically has to stop and wait. This obviously isn't a problem in cities. But for long-distance biking, it can be a huge problem. So having a strong enough headlamp that makes the car driver think he meets a motorcycle really makes wonders. |
