A lot of things can be done with a 4-bitter.
And a lot of things can be done with a 32-bit processor.

The question is how many things can be done with a 4-bitter where it is a direct advantage to settle for a 4-bitter - the cheapeast 8 or 32-bit processors are also quite small physically, quite small in power consumption and quite cheap. As I see it, we must basically be talking about products that have a retail price of just a few dollars, for $0.10 to make much of a difference.
