it's that requirement that WalMart suppliers cut their cost to WalMart by a fixed percentage each year. They can only do so much before quality suffers. They all have special WalMart model numbers, BTW.

"You get what you pay for" is quite right.

The first thing that goes is the outgoing inspection. If it's broken, i.e. DOA, you take it back and WalMart gives you another. Never mind the installation effort. Never mind the risk that the next one will be DOA as well.
