Not sure why GSM would be better than GPS as clock reference.

Both alternatives requires modules if done at each slave.

And if done on master, you still just get a time that must be transmitted to all the slaves.

Next thing is that the GSM time service depends on operator. If you was thinking about time from GSM network and not NTP time by setting up a EDGE/3G/CDMA/... session.
