...of course we here at this site would agree that the C8051F board should win every time over the PIC !!! :-)
What software are you using on the PC that accesses the virtual comm ports served up from the USB connection(s) to the Prolific based cable? Is that software consisting of different programs for the PIC setup versus the SiLabs setup? I bring this up because it is common that when you put the same USB->Serial cable from one USB port and into another USB port that the virtual Comm Port number changes. It may be COM16 in one instance and COM23 in the other instance. If the software program that you are using for the PIC controller communications has some difficulty recognizing the COMM port number changes then this may explain why it cannot link up on the second USB port. *** Side Comment *** Note that if the PC side software is bring written in the older Visual Basic 6 using the MSComm control then be aware that the highest COMM port number is limited to port 16.
