In this case, it sounds more like the tapes are used for data exchange and not for backup.
The big question is - is the backup software needed? Can the data be grabbed directly from the machine and dumped? How large amounts of data needs to be stored? What electrical interface did the tape drive use? What other interfaces exists on the machines? What is acceptable transfer speeds? How often are data saved? What needs are there for media rotation? Minimum data retention time? |
