#178751 - Old Computer... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Mahmood:
Once you gather information about the old computer you may find that it could be most straightforward to replace the backup software with a new program that you write. Doing so may very well allow you to devise the simplest protocol to the new device that you would create for the backup. You may find the computer is some type of open system that is fairly easy to write programs for such as a CP/M system or a DOS 2.1 system. On the other hand if the computer is some special thing like a Genrad Circuit Board tester or a Pertec small business computer running FDOS then custom software may be out of the question. You could even consider not even designing any backup hardware at all and just use a PC that has the necessary serial interface. Then software you write for both ends could store the data in the most suitable manner - to internal HDD, USB Stick, Compact Flash Card and so forth. Michael Karas |
