Customer has one central machine which stores data into tape backup ( I still don't know what his machine does or what his data is), then remote machines that read data from these tape backups. These tapes are very old and some of them still work.
I might have the capability to redesign the whole system to use modern data communications with TCP/IP, GPRS or whatever, but this will increase the cost and I might not get the contract. I was supposed to go today to the customer to check further but spare parts arrived for another antique computer system HP310 I'm working on and I had to install them and things look good. I noticed reading the service manual of the tape backup drive that there is a CRC byte with data stream, this might make things more challenging. Mahmood |
