The MCU AT89C2051 has an internal Analog Comparator at pins P1.0(AIN0) and P1.1(AIN1). If this peripheral is used with minimal components it will give a good Zero Crossing Detector with controlled hysterisis.

An equivalent example that present ideas to experiment using the internal Analog Comparator is included in this application note by NXP for the LPC900 series with hardware and software demos.
