the "practical" articles generally were more interested in selling something than on presenting a well-thought-out project. Typically, IIRC, people read the article, got all excited about it, thought it through and forgot about it without buying anything. Unfortunately, some people bought before thinking. They're the ones who kept CC alive as long as they did. They were typically swept up in the hype and subsequently disappointed in the product.
